The future of conservation lies with our youth and developing their love of the outdoors. Trout Camp emphasizes ethics, etiquette and streamside environment along with the joy of fly fishing for children aged 10-13.

Schedule: Our 5-day camp combines one day of day-camp and a four-day & three night fishing trip: July 23 – 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Idaho Fish and Game Trophy Room in the IDFG headquarters on Walnut Street, Boise; July 24-27 trip to Barber Flats Guard Station on the North Fork of the Boise River for more fishing, instruction and the joy of the sport.

Curriculum: Trout Camp teaches the sport of fly fishing to both novice and experienced anglers in an ethical manner, with emphasis on the natural resources that make the sport possible. Counselors teach respect for the environment and an understanding that successful angling experience and resource conservation are mutually dependent. Most importantly Trout Camp teaches your child that being outdoors and getting knee deep into a fishing stream is FUN!

Camp Schedule: The five day 2018 edition of Trout Camp is in two parts. The program begins on July 23 with a Monday Day Camp in Boise. The Students return on Tuesday July 24 for a four day overnight River Camp in a forest environment. The River Camp ends on return to Boise July 27.

Overnight Trip: The overnight River Camp component begins on Tuesday July 24. It will be based at the Barber Flats Guard Station on the North Fork of the Boise River. This is designed as an outdoor experience with crafts, food preparation and small camp tent shelter for three nights all with close adult supervision. After three nights in the forest Students return to be picked up Friday afternoon July 27th.

Supplies and Equipment: Trout Camp provides both food and shelter and all the flyfishing equipment your child needs. Students are welcome to bring and use their own fishing equipment if they desire. They will arrive Monday dressed and equipped for both indoor and outdoor activities. On Tuesday morning they will arrive for transportation to the four day River Camp by school bus.
